I can drive and the car will go into neutral on it's own. The little foot light on the dash goes on. I put it in neutral. Light goes away.
Put car in drive. Car runs fine for a while then it does it again. That foot light sure makes it sound like maybe a neutral saftey switch or the brake switch. I don't know that much about these cars. I tested the brake lights - They were not working - put in a new brake light switch. Lights are now working but car still is not. Car wouldn't move out of park.
U0103 GMC - Lost Communication With Shift Lever Module
It left me and kid stranded in the middle of the road. I had to move the shifter from D to N to R and back with no results. I put in park and it got stuck there. Car wouldn't move. Had to get it towed. Key was stuck on. It would NOT release at all.
My mechanic friend said it sounds like a shift solenoid. Anyone know where to get the shift solenoid from? Thread Tools.Hi, I need some help with diagnosing my brother's car, a Audi A3 gas engine. We were able to manually shift the lever into neutral using the override switch and towed it back home. None of the lights show up on the shift lever but the strange part is the sunroof and the power seat does not work.
Ross - Tech. Also, I did replace the burnt out brake light and made sure all brake lights were working as I thought it could be the brake switch. From what my younger brother told me, he was driving and giving it some gas and it started revving high with no forward movement, so obviously it shifted into neutral by itself.
He parked it and restarted the car and discovered he couldn't take it out of park. The car has been with the family since new. It has never had clunky shifting nor any DMF rattle if this info helps. Thanks again. I do not have any experience to offer, but on the Ross Site, they provide some detail on this error. The replaced the mechatronics unit. I would take a look at the Ross site and hopfully, someone with knowledge on this site, will reply back.

VAG products display all sorts of bizarre electronic issues when not fed enough power. Charged the battery last night on a ctek smart charger. Still the same issue. Found the fix, and I can't believe I overlooked it, now I feel stupid. It was the fuse 53 responsible for "optional equipment" according to the manual; a 50amp fuse. I don't recall if I visually inspected it or not, as it looks fine but the ohm resistance indicated otherwise.

Malfunction is detected when an excessively low or high voltage from the sensor is sent to ECM. This sensor is a kind of potentiometer which transforms the throttle position into output voltage, and emits the voltage signal to the Engine Control Module ECM.
In addition, the sensor detects the opening and closing speed of the throttle valve and feeds the voltage signal to the ECM. Idle position of the throttle valve is determined by the ECM receiving the signal from the throttle position sensor.
This sensor controls engine operation such as fuel cut. On the other hand, the Wide open and closed throttle position switch, which is built into the throttle position sensor unit, is not used for engine control. Get Access to Factory Service Manuals. There have been several times while driving on the interstate as well as locally that the car will just suddenly lose power and I cannot get it back up to speed to pull over. The codes that are coming up because the check engine light is on are: stuck in reverse, stuck in 5th gear luckily I haven't had any accidents. I have taken the car to be diagnosed by a Volkswagen dealership as well as an independent auto shop that specializes in Volkswagens both with the same result that is needs a transmission.
I don't understand why it is not being recalled when it is doing all the same things that is stated in the recall and not to mention the safety implications. This is very frustrating when I cannot safely rely on my car not knowing when it will happen and if I will be as lucky as to not get into an accident. I really wish Volkswagen would do something about this, but the only thing I keep hearing is I'm sorry your VIN is not on the recall.
